Middleton Place Engagement Session | Charleston, SC

This Middleton Place engagement session was so dreamy. Aurie Engel and John had the PERFECT engagement session with the spring flowers in bloom and beautiful warm weather.

I always love when clients choose Middleton Place for their sessions because of all the beautiful options we have for portraits. Whether we tuck away into the many gardens or make our way to the water, this venue never disappoints.

Spring is one of my favorite times for engagement sessions, and it’s no surprise why. The gardens are amazing and typically in full bloom after the season’s first few weeks. It’s finally starting to warm up, and it’s just such a breath of fresh air after the winter.

Choosing The Location for Your Engagement Session

I always love helping clients through the process of choosing a location for their sessions. Many clients already know where they would like their session to take place, but here are a few helpful tips if you’re still trying to decide on the perfect location!

Is Your Wedding Venue Available

While not all venues allow this option, many of my clients choose to do their engagement session at their wedding venue. I love this option because it will enable us to test out the venue ahead of time and scope out some fun portrait locations for the big day like this Middleton Place engagement session.

Consider The Time of Year

It may go without saying, but it’s important to factor this into your decision. While storytelling is one key piece, the weather is also significant. Especially here on the coast! For instance, if we are shooting at an outdoor location in the summer, it might be a good idea to have a rain plan.

Consider Why You’re Choosing It

You don’t have to dive super deep here, but it is fun to consider your location from another angle. Implementing a personal attachment to an area is always a fun way to give a nod to your story. Did you meet on your college campus or at a fun spot in your town? Consider looping that into a part of your engagement session!

Will This Be a Comfortable Location

So many brides tell me their grooms aren’t super into PDA. The good news is there are plenty of stunning locations where you can feel free to be yourself without the crowd. Of course, time of day also plays into this. Be sure to choose a location where you both feel comfortable and can focus on being together!
