This fall family session at Southeast Park in Columbia with the Chapman family was such a blast. I truly can’t believe how much these precious girls have grown since our last portrait session. This was the fourth time I had the honor of photographing this crew, and we had the best time playing and laughing under the grand oak trees!
Fall Family Session at Southeast Park
After doing heirloom portraits for Allie’s girls the second time, I asked Allie and her husband Blake to be our models in a styled shoot. They’ve been loyal clients for family photos ever since, and each time working with them is somehow better than the time before!
I love love love this family and enjoy being around these precious girls so much. They love to run and jump and play together and it’s so sweet getting to see these sweet sisters interact.
The Key To Successful Family Photos
Did you know the key to successful family photos isn’t dependent on just the photographer?
Of course, we can work things out in just about every situation (thank you, hectic wedding days), but the magic really happens when everyone involved is a team player.
Be Prepared
This can mean making sure everyone is well rested and well fed (and also caffeinated) before your session.
Be sure to allow yourself plenty of wiggle room for things like traffic or wardrobe malfunctions.
It’s also important to arrive early to allow for parking or a short walk to the session location.
Be sure to bring a few (clean) snacks for the little ones. Options like goldfish or fruit snacks are perfect for sneaking between frames or walking between locations. A little bribe for after the session also never hurt anyone’s feelings.
Keep Things Fun
The most important thing to bring is a fun, easygoing demeanor and a positive attitude. Yes, we know it can be toasty at times, but I’ll do my very best to keep things fun and moving during every session.
I’ve got more than a few tips and tricks for getting little ones engaged during the session, but we also love it when parents are just as happy to be there as they are.
